The Durnkald have studied Azca and the planes and stars for millennia, they believe that they have a better understanding of the true nature of the cosmos than most of the other races of Ahn-Azzex. The Durnkald believe that theirs is a world in everything that they know and have ever experienced is but a drop in an ocean of alternate and wildly disparate realities. They believe that Ahn-Azzex is a stitch in an infinite tapestry, running concurrent with other realities and bound together with interlacing threads of Azca; Azca itself is believed to be the source of all of the rules that govern the behavior and movement heavenly bodies, a magical spellform the likes of which is beyond comprehension by all but the gods.
The Durnskald usually prefer to picture their reality as a sphere contained within a void which is itself a sphere, with other spheres visible to those that know how and where to look. That void is the Astral plane, beyond which is known as Gehenna Ra; there Azca is unformed and primal, transmuting and distorting reality until it unravels in an orgy of chaos and obliteration.
Inside the sphere of Ahn-Azzex there are only two elements: Azca and Entropy. The worlds of the living and the dead are not separated in any appreciable sense, since the realm of the dead is just something that happens when the level of entropy in an area is greater than the level of Azca.
